may be" 「であれ」is the continuative(stem) form of 「である」.This is used basically in written Japanese. 会社員であれ学生であれ、日本人は自分の所属する企業や大学を「ウチ」と呼ぶ。 Whether they may be office-workers or students, they call their company or their university to which they belong "uchi(my house, my family)". Noun は 何であれ、 ーー "whatever (Noun) may be --" "any" 原因は何であれ、明らかにされなければならない。 (Whatever the cause may be, it should be brought to light.) プレゼントは何であれうれしいものだ。 (Any present pleases us.) |
