"do as one is told without thinking
on one's own." 彼は彼女の言いなりになっている。（He is at her mercy.) 夫は完全に妻の言いなりになっている。 （She has her husband eating out of her hand.) あの人は何でも親の言うなりですね。(He does whatever his parents tell him, doesn't he?) Additional Expressions: (1) Verb inf.non past ＋ なり "immediately after --" "upon ----ing" ＝ と同時に "at the same time" The action described in the predicate should be something unexpected or unusual. 女の子は家へ帰るなり、泣き出した。 (Upon returning home, the girl began to cry.) とても疲れていたので、帰るなり寝てしまった。 （Being so tired, he went to bed right after he had arrived home.) (2) Verb inf.past ＋ なり "remain" = たまま The subjects of the main and the subordinate clauses must be the same. けさ早く家を出たなり、夜になっても帰ってこない。 （She left home early this morning and has not come back even after dark.) |
