Week #16 (October 10, 2000)

Now that you have learned how to use "Yahoo!" and Alta Vista, you are ready to surf the web.  But it would be easier to surf if you know more about the Netscape.  I will explain about the "options" of the Netscape Navigator.  You will learn how to customize your Netscape Navigator and also learn about its "cache".

Last week you learned how to record the sites you visited on your "bookmark.htm" file.  Today, you will make a "bookmark2.htm" file with Hidemaru on your own and make a hyper link on both "bookmark.htm" and "bookmark2.htm."

  1. First, locate "bookmark.htm" in the "Eudora/attach" folder with the Explorer and rename it as "bookmark2.htm".

  2. Copy the "bookmark.htm" to the "Eawase/bin" folder.

  3. Open both "bookmark.htm" and "bookmark2.htm" files in the "Eawase/bin" folder with Hidemaru.   Add <a href="bookmark2.htm">Bookmark2</a> to the "bookmark.htm" and <a href="bookmark.htm">Bookmark1</a> to the "bookmark2.htm" as in the below:

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html">

    <body bgcolor="#000000" text="#CCCC99" link="#FFFF00" vlink="#00FF00">

    <p align="center"><font color="#CCCC99" size="6" face="arial"><b>
    Bookmark 1
    </b></font><font color="#FF0000" size="7"> </font></p>

    <p align="center"><font color="#C0C0C0" size="4">Last updated on October 1,

    <div align="center"><center>

    <table border="0" width="95%">
    <td width="100%">
    <a href="bookmark2.htm">Bookmark2</a>

    <li><p align="left"><font size="4">
    <a href="http://www.dokkyo.ac.jp/eg/" target="_TOP">Dokkyo Home (English)</a>:
    The Dokkyo Homepage in English.

  4. Open "bookmark.htm" with the Netscape and see if the link works.

  5. If you have time, make "bookmark3.htm" on your own in the "Eawase/bin" folder and make links to the other files. How to make an html file is explained here.

Start your netsurfing using "Yahoo!" and "Alta Vista" and make a plan for the second semester project.
