Week #17 (October
17, 2000)
Last week some of you could not finish the
following exercise. If you have not finished, why don't you make a
"bookmark2.htm" file with Hidemaru on your own and make a hyper link on both
"bookmark.htm" and "bookmark2.htm."
First, locate "bookmark.htm" in
the "Eudora/attach" folder with the Explorer and rename it as
"bookmark2.htm".
Copy the "bookmark.htm" to the
"Eawase/bin" folder.
Open both "bookmark.htm" and
"bookmark2.htm" files in the "Eawase/bin" folder with Hidemaru.
Add <a href="bookmark2.htm">Bookmark2</a> to the
"bookmark.htm" and <a
href="bookmark.htm">Bookmark1</a> to the
"bookmark2.htm"
Open "bookmark.htm" with the
Netscape and see if the link works.
If you have time, make
"bookmark3.htm" on your own in the "Eawase/bin" folder and make links
to the other files. How to make an html file is explained here.
Now, in addition to the above links,
let's review how to save images with the Netscape and make links on an image.
Surf the Web with the Netscape and
look for an image you would like to attach on your "bookmark" html files.
Since it takes time to download large images, you had better select a small image.
Point the cursor on the image you
would like to save and click the right button of the mouse to open the short-cut menu.
Select "Save Image As..." from the shortcut menu and save the image in
the "Eawase/bin" folder (the same folder where your "bookmark" html
files are). You may change the image file name if you like.
Open the "bookmark.htm" in
the "Eawase/bin" folder with Hidemaru. Add the following lines on the
appropriate place of the "bookmark.htm":
<a href="bookmark2.htm"><img src="image
file name (don't forget the extension. e.g. "shimada.jpg" or
"shimada.gif")" border="0"></a>
Save the "bookmark.htm"
and open it with the Netscape. See if the image appears at the right place and also
see if the link works.
If you have time, hunt for another
image file on the Web and make an image link on your "bookmark2.htm" file so
that you can go back to the "bookmark.htm" from it.
Did you know that you can have
"wallpaper" on the windows desktop? You can select an image on the Web by
the Netscape and use it as wallpaper for the windows desktop. Let's try just for
fun.
Open the Shimada Seminar front page.
Place your cursor on the nightsky background image and click the right button of
the mouse to open the short-cut menu. Select "Set As Wallpaper" from the
shortcut menu.
Close all the windows (you can do this by
placing the cursor on the task bar and by clicking the right button and select
"Minimize all the windows"). See what happened to your desktop.
Just like the wallpaper on the windows
desktop, you can select "wallpaper" for your html files. Let's add
wallpaper to your "bookmark.htm" file although the wallpaper of homepage is
usually called "background." You need the Internet Explorer to do this.
Do you remember how to start up the Internet Explorer? With the Explorer, go
to the C: drive, then to the "Program Files" folder, and finally to the
"Internet Explorer" folder. Double click on the "Iexplorer.exe"
in the folder and you will see the Internet Explorer start up.
Open the Shimada Seminar front page
with the Internet Explorer. (You can do this by copying the url from the Netscape
and pasting it on the address blank of the Internet Explorer.) Place your cursor on
the nightsky background image and click the right button of the mouse to open the
short-cut menu. Select this time "Save Background As..." (or
"namae o tsukete haikei o hozon") from the shortcut menu and save
"nightsky.gif" in the "Eawase/bin" folder.
Open the "bookmark.htm" in the
"Eawase/bin" folder with Hidemaru. Find the following line near the top:
<body bgcolor="#000000" text="#CCCC99"
link="#FFFF00" vlink="#00FF00">
Rewrite the line as follows:
<body bgcolor="#000000" text="#CCCC99"
link="#FFFF00" vlink="#00FF00" background="nightsky.gif">
Save the "bookmark.htm" and open
it with the Netscape. Now you have a nightsky image on your "bookmark.htm"
file.
Start your netsurfing using
"Yahoo!" and "Alta Vista" and make a plan for the second semester project.
